First rest day

June 3 was a first rest day at the FIDE Women's Candidates Tournament. The organizers offered a free sightseeing trip, which started at 10 am with visiting the Kremlin and other places of interest nearby.

Then the guests of the capital of Tatarstan took a bus along the Kremlin embankment, past the Palace of Farmers, the Bowl of the Civil Registry Office, and the Puppet Theatre. Having walked along the embankment of Kaban Island, they made a relaxing break to enjoy meals in the Tatarskaya Usadba restaurant.

The trip was concluded in the Staro-Tatarskaya Sloboda with a stop at a Tatar coffee shop.
Coming back to chess, a first side event took place at the Bauman street chess tent. A blitz tournament for seniors attracted 18 players, who were divided into two groups and competed in a single round round-robin format. The best two players from each group – Alexander Menshikov with Viacheslav Khrustov and Sergey Vasiliev with Sergey Sergeev - qualified for the semifinals. Having won their matches, Vasiliev and Khustov advanced to the final, which was eventually won by Sergey Vasiliev.

All the participants received diplomas, books from the RCF Library and "64 – Chess Review" magazines. The players rewarded by Vice-President of the Chess Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan Narkiz Saifutdinov.
